Introduction

Since its founding in 1975, the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria has been making significant efforts to internationalise her campus to achieve her set vision of becoming an international centre of excellence in learning, research, probity and service to humanity and her mission of providing a world-class environment for learning, research and community service. A big push towards this effort was in 2009 when the University established a Centre for International Education (CIE). 

The Centre for International Education is a unit in the University of Ilorin, licensed by the University Senate. Since inception, the Centre has been overseeing the international affairs of the University. It is now under the six leadership. The first Director of the Centre was Prof Obeng, former Vice-Chancellor of Cape Coast University, Ghana. He left in 2009 after about 6 months and the mantle of leadership fell on Prof A.O Omotosho who was the Director  up to July 2011. Prof Olugbenga A. Mokuolu took over from him and served between 2011 and 2014. It was the turn of Prof Muhammad O. Ibrahim from 2014 to 2017. Prof Felicia .A.O. Olasehinde-Williams was the Director of CIE between 2017 and 2020. While the baton was passed to Prof Raimi A.Olaoye, who served from 2020 till July 3st 2023. The incumbent Director, Prof Lateef Onireti Ibraheem took over from him on the 1st August 2023.

Objectives: In line with the corporate plan of the University, the Centre is responsible for:

  • initiating, promoting, facilitating and coordinating international  programmes and linkages;
  • exchanging of faculties and students;
  • facilitating and coordinating collaborative research projects across academic disciplines. 
  • bringing staff and students from all over the world to the university; 
  • Immigration/travel support for Staff and students, both Internationals and Nationals and
  • facilitating staff attendance of International Conferences.
